“Texas Man's Confession to Friend: 'I Hit My Mom with a Hammer, Help Me Destroy Evidence!'”

In a chilling case of violence, a 24-year-old man, Robert Babin, allegedly struck his mother in the head with a hammer during an argument and then confessed his crime to a friend on a gaming platform.

Babin’s actions, along with his subsequent messages about trying to destroy evidence, have led to his arrest and charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

The Grisly Crime

According to court documents reviewed by ABC affiliate KTRK, Babin sent a message to his friend on Wednesday, revealing the horrific attack on his mother. “I am in trouble and I need your help,” Babin reportedly wrote.

“I just assaulted my mother with a hammer, I got angry, I don’t know what to do, I can’t go to prison.”

Babin allegedly went on to explain the severity of his actions, saying, “I have to get rid of the hammer and destroy the evidence before the police get there.” He further mentioned that his mother was “barely breathing” after being struck several times on the head and the side.

A Delay in Help

The friend, who was reportedly on a gaming platform at the time, did not see the messages until about two hours later. This delay in responding meant that the victim was left suffering for an extended period of time.

Despite the friend’s advice to Babin to call the police, the authorities were not alerted immediately.

Discovery and Arrest

When police arrived at Babin’s home in the 18700 block of Holly Way in Harris County, just west of Houston, they found the 61-year-old woman in the backyard, severely bleeding from her head and unable to speak.

She was airlifted to a nearby hospital in serious condition and was still in critical state the following day.

Babin initially claimed that he had left his mother napping at the house while he went to the store and returned to find police already present. However, his messages to the friend contradicted this statement, casting doubt on his version of events.

Legal Consequences

Babin has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in prison. As of Friday, he remained detained at the Harris County Jail.

This disturbing incident serves as a reminder of the deep and sometimes tragic consequences of uncontrolled anger and violence. Babin’s alleged actions and subsequent confession to a gaming friend paint a grim picture of the events that transpired.

With the victim still in critical condition and Babin facing serious legal consequences, the case will likely remain a focus for authorities in the coming weeks.
