Paris Jackson is hitting back at critics who are upset about her performing on June 25, the anniversary of her father Michael Jackson’s death.
In an Instagram Story shared on June 13, Paris, 27, expressed her frustration over the criticism, explaining that she doesn’t have control over the dates of her performances as part of her upcoming tour with Incubus and Manchester Orchestra.
The Anniversary Performance Controversy
The June 25 date, which coincides with the 16th anniversary of Michael Jackson’s passing, has sparked backlash from some fans who believe it’s inappropriate for Paris to perform on such a personal day. “So people are mad again,” Paris said in the video, referring to the ongoing criticism.
“This time, I think, I guess one of the tour dates I’m supposed to be going out on tour with Incubus and Manchester Orchestra happens to be June 25, which is a very negative anniversary for me in my life and my family.”
Paris, however, made it clear that she did not choose this date. “When you’re not headlining these shows, you don’t pick what date you perform,” she said. “It’s not up to me.”
Paris Jackson’s Tour Role and Sacrifices
As part of the tour, Paris is a supporting act, not the headliner, and she’s making the tour work on her own terms. “It’s just me and my acoustic guitar and my sound guy, who happens to be my fiancé,” she added, referring to Justin Long.
Paris also explained that they would be traveling in a “soccer mom van,” emphasizing that she’s not receiving special treatment or lavish accommodations while on the road.
Her Defiant Response to Critics
Paris made it clear that she won’t let the criticism sway her decision. “I pitched myself to be a part of this tour, and I’m not going to pull out,” she said. In a defiant tone, she added, “So, I’m gonna tell ‘em, ‘Sorry, guys, we can’t perform on this date?’” before sarcastically adding, “F— you.”
Upcoming Tour Details
Paris Jackson is set to join Incubus and Manchester Orchestra on their Morning View + The Hits tour across the U.S. and U.K.
The June 25 performance in Nashville will mark a bittersweet milestone, as it will be the 16th anniversary of Michael Jackson’s death, which occurred in 2009 at the age of 50.
Paris Jackson’s response to her critics highlights her commitment to her music career, despite the emotional challenges that come with performing on such a significant date. She’s determined to continue her tour, and it’s clear that she won’t let outside opinions dictate her choices.
