Parts of Pennsylvania and New Jersey are set to experience some of the hottest temperatures this year on Thursday, with highs reaching into the lower 90s. This heatwave will bring increased temperatures and a slight chance of afternoon thunderstorms, particularly north of I-78.
Hot Weather Forecast
The National Weather Service in Mount Holly reports that clearing skies and the movement of smoke from earlier weather conditions will allow full sunshine. This will push temperatures into the upper 80s and low 90s, especially from Philadelphia to Trenton. Areas southeast of I-95, including Camden, Vineland, and Dover, are expected to experience highs around 91°F to 92°F.
Afternoon Storms in Northeastern Areas
While much of the region will stay dry, northeastern Pennsylvania and northern New Jersey, including areas like Mount Pocono, Morristown, and Long Branch, may see a few pop-up thunderstorms between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. These storms may bring gusty winds and brief downpours, but severe weather is not anticipated.

Given the intense heat, residents are advised to limit outdoor activities during the hottest parts of the day. It’s important to stay hydrated and ensure pets have access to plenty of water and shade. In case the heat remains high into the evening, cooling centers may be opened in affected areas to provide relief.
