On Sunday, several tornadoes briefly touched down across the Texas Panhandle, causing some damage but no major injuries. The tornadoes affected areas in Borger and Dallam County, with winds reaching speeds up to 95 mph.
Tornado in Borger
The first tornado, an EF0 with winds of 80 mph, hit Borger at 4:26 p.m. It caused minor damage, including damaged shingles and broken tree branches on the north side of the town. The tornado’s path was short, only about 0.2 miles, and no injuries were reported.
Tornado in Dallam County
Another tornado struck southwest Dallam County at around 4:38 p.m. This one was an EF1, with winds near 95 mph. It traveled nearly two miles, destroying a barn just south of FM 1727. The storm caused significant damage to the barn, but no other structures were affected.
Other Tornadoes in the Region
Earlier that afternoon, two other tornadoes were confirmed near Felt and Perico, but they caused no structural damage. The tornado near Felt moved across six miles of grassland, flattening vegetation but leaving buildings unharmed.
Stay Weather-Aware
As we enter June, which is the peak season for tornadoes in the region, residents are urged to stay aware of the weather. Although no additional storms are predicted this week, more damage assessments may follow in the coming days.
The Texas Panhandle is no stranger to tornadoes, and this weekend’s brief storms highlight the importance of being prepared and informed about severe weather events. While these tornadoes didn’t cause any major injuries, they serve as a reminder that weather conditions can change rapidly in this part of the state.
