Nick Chubb passes physical and signs one-year, $2.5 million contract with the Texans

Veteran running back Nick Chubb has officially joined the Houston Texans, marking a new chapter in his NFL career. Chubb passed his physical and signed a one-year, $2.5 million contract with the team. The deal includes the chance for him to earn an additional $2.5 million through performance-based incentives.

Chubb’s Career in Cleveland

Nick Chubb was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft. Over the course of his career, Chubb established himself as one of the top running backs in the league. He earned four consecutive Pro Bowl selections from 2019 to 2022 and consistently posted impressive stats, including a career average of 5.1 yards per carry—one of the best in NFL history.

Setback in 2023 and Road to Recovery

However, Chubb’s career hit a major setback in 2023 when he suffered a severe knee injury in the second game of the season. After a long recovery process, Chubb was cleared to return midway through the 2024 season. Despite his return, he was not able to perform at the same level he had prior to the injury. As a result, he struggled to find a new contract and ultimately signed a one-year, prove-it deal with the Texans.

Joining the Texans Backfield

Chubb now joins a talented backfield in Houston, which already includes starting running back Joe Mixon, along with Dameon Pierce and rookie Woody Marks. With this new opportunity, Chubb will look to prove that he can return to his Pro Bowl-caliber form and contribute significantly to the Texans’ offense in 2024.
