A tragic incident at a Texas gas station led to the arrest of 22-year-old Lansselo Martinez for the beating death of 38-year-old Ye Myint Aung. Martinez allegedly attacked Aung in what may have been a violent reaction to believing that Aung threw a beer bottle at him.
Details of the Attack
The incident occurred on the morning of May 23, when Aung was attacked by Martinez, who struck him at least 20 times in the head. Surveillance footage from the gas station shows Aung staggering out of the building before collapsing. Hours later, a friend found Aung unconscious at the scene and called 911. Despite being rushed to the hospital, Aung passed away on May 25 from blunt force trauma.
The Sequence of Events Leading to the Murder
Martinez and a friend were seen arriving at the gas station, where they interacted with Aung. At some point, a beer bottle, placed on the hood of Martinez’s car by his friend, fell off. Martinez believed that someone had thrown the bottle at him and, in a fit of rage, began confronting others at the gas station. The anger quickly turned toward Aung, leading to the fatal attack.
Aung’s friend, Lakisha Wilks, visited the gas station later in the day to buy tacos and discovered Aung lying on the ground. She immediately recognized that something was wrong and called 911. She was told that Aung had been lying there since 9:30 that morning, but by the time she arrived, it was too late to save him.
Investigation and Arrest
Harris County authorities began reviewing surveillance footage and questioning witnesses. They learned that Martinez’s friend had placed the beer bottle on the car. Martinez was arrested and charged with murder, with a bond set at $500,000. His next court appearance is set for July 29.
This heartbreaking event underscores the consequences of unchecked rage and misunderstanding. If Aung had received timely medical attention, it’s possible that his life could have been saved. Martinez now faces serious charges, and the case remains under investigation.
