Florida Mother Arrested for Providing False Alibi for Son Accused of Stabbing Teen

A Florida mother, Kayla Cobb, has been arrested after allegedly providing a false alibi for her 15-year-old son, who is accused of stabbing a fellow student. Cobb, 33, was charged with providing false information to law enforcement during a felony investigation, a misdemeanor, and was booked into the Volusia County Jail with a $500 bond.

The Stabbing Incident

The incident in question occurred on May 14, 2024, near a middle school in Deltona, Florida. According to authorities, Cobb’s son and a 13-year-old accomplice attacked a 15-year-old student who was walking home from school. The victim suffered stab wounds and had to receive staples and stitches at a nearby hospital. Investigators later determined that the 13-year-old was allegedly responsible for orchestrating the attack, although the motive remains unclear.

False Alibi and Investigation

After the stabbing, Cobb allegedly gave police a false alibi for her son, claiming he was somewhere else during the incident. However, this claim fell apart when cellphone data revealed that her son was indeed at the scene of the crime. Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood criticized Cobb for her actions in a Facebook video, stating, “She’s going to be my nominee for ‘mother of the year.’” Chitwood expressed his frustration with Cobb, saying that while her son was allegedly stabbing another teen, she was attempting to shield him from responsibility.

Legal Consequences for Cobb and Her Son

As a result of her actions, Cobb was arrested and charged with providing false information to law enforcement. She was scheduled to appear in court, but the court date was later canceled, and Cobb remained in custody. Her son, who is facing a much more serious charge of aggravated battery, was reportedly turned in by his grandmother.

The 13-year-old accomplice also faces charges in connection with the stabbing.

Kayla Cobb’s actions in attempting to protect her son from the consequences of his alleged crime have now led to her own legal troubles. The case highlights the lengths some individuals will go to avoid accountability, even when it involves violent behavior. Cobb and her son are both facing significant legal consequences for their roles in the incident, and the investigation is ongoing.
