Hastings, Nebraska — A heat advisory remains in effect for much of central and northern Kansas and Nebraska, including all of north-central Kansas and portions of central, east-central, and south-central Nebraska, from noon today until 8 p.m. CDT Tuesday.
The National Weather Service has warned that a dangerous combination of high temperatures and humidity will create heat indices ranging from 102°F to 108°F, increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses.
High Heat and Humidity Pose Health Risks
Residents in the affected regions should take immediate precautions to protect their health, as the dangerous heat and humidity could cause heat exhaustion, heat stroke, and other heat-related illnesses.
The National Weather Service advises staying in air-conditioned environments whenever possible, drinking plenty of fluids, and avoiding prolonged exposure to the sun.
Precautionary Measures
It is especially important to check on elderly relatives and neighbors, as they may be more vulnerable to the extreme heat. For those working outdoors, the National Weather Service recommends scheduling frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned spaces to prevent heat exhaustion.
Anyone experiencing dizziness, nausea, or faintness should seek immediate medical attention, as these can be symptoms of heat stroke.
