The magic is officially back in the air as Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock reunite for the highly anticipated sequel, Practical Magic 2. On Friday, July 18, Kidman shared a heartwarming behind-the-scenes video on her social media, offering fans a glimpse of her and Bullock’s first day on set.
Both actresses are reprising their iconic roles from the beloved 1998 film Practical Magic, where they played the Owens sisters, witches who are cursed to lose the men they fall in love with.
Kidman captioned the post, “The witches are back ✨ Owens sisters’ first day on set! #PracticalMagic,” sharing her excitement for the return to their magical world. Fans were thrilled to see the two actresses back together, embracing their characters once again.
The Return of the Beloved Characters
Joining Kidman and Bullock for the sequel are Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest, who are reprising their roles as the aunts to the Owens sisters. In the original Practical Magic, Channing played Frances “Franny” Owens, the no-nonsense aunt, while Wiest played Bridget “Jet” Owens, the gentle and understanding matriarch.
The two aunts are described as eccentric and wise, teaching the Owens sisters everything they know about magic and self-reliance.
The cast also welcomes Joey King as Sally’s daughter, and newcomers Lee Pace, Maisie Williams, Xolo Maridueña, and Solly McLeod join the film in new roles. The sequel’s script is written by Akiva Goldsman, the original screenwriter, alongside Georgia Pritchett of Succession fame.

While plot details for Practical Magic 2 have been kept under wraps, producer Denise Di Novi shared her insights with PEOPLE about the direction of the sequel. According to Di Novi, the film aims to preserve the heart of the original while adding fresh elements for the fans.
“There’s a joyousness to that movie, and there’s such beautiful themes of sisterhood and family and acceptance, tolerance, love,” she said.
Di Novi continued, “Just the title that Alice Hoffman, the amazing author, thought of that’s now become part of the vernacular of Practical Magic is that there’s magic in daily life, in love, in family, in sisterhood. It’s magical, and we all have our gifts, and women have very particular and specific gifts. We really want to honor all of that.”
