Seattle’s Dangerous Heat Wave: What You Need to Know About the 90°F Temperatures

Seattle, Washington – A summer heat wave is hitting the Puget Sound region, with Seattle, Everett, and Tacoma expected to see temperatures soar into the low 90s. Health officials are warning residents to exercise extra caution as a Heat Advisory remains in effect until 5 p.m. Thursday.

The National Weather Service has issued the advisory for King, Snohomish, Pierce, Skagit, and Whatcom counties, predicting highs in the upper 80s to low 90s during the day, with nighttime lows in the 60s. These conditions pose a moderate risk for heat-related illness, particularly for those without air conditioning or proper hydration.

Communities like Bellevue, Marysville, Renton, Bellingham, and Mount Vernon are expected to experience the hottest stretch of the summer so far. Residents are encouraged to limit outdoor activities during the peak heat of the day, check on vulnerable neighbors, and avoid leaving children or pets in parked cars.

Local hospitals and emergency services are on heightened alert for signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke, which can develop quickly in extreme conditions.

For those who must be outdoors, officials recommend frequent breaks in the shade, wearing lightweight clothing, and drinking plenty of water. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) also suggests that outdoor workers adjust their schedules, moving strenuous activities to the early morning or evening hours when temperatures are lower.

The hot, dry conditions could persist into Friday in some areas, so residents are urged to stay tuned for further advisories if temperatures remain high.
