Natalie Portman and Rashida Jones are bringing the laughs to the set of Lena Dunham’s new romantic comedy, Good Sex. The movie, which is currently being filmed in New York City, features a star-studded cast including Meg Ryan, Tramell Tillman, and Mark Ruffalo.
The behind-the-scenes photos from the set show Portman, 44, in a relaxed yet chic look — a linen shirt paired with a mini skirt — enjoying a classic rom-com moment.
She was spotted getting pretzels and sitting on a park bench with Jones, 49, as they shared a good laugh. In one photo, Portman reacts animatedly to her phone, while in another, she and Dunham appear to be in deep conversation.
The Oscar-winning actress is playing Ally, a couples’ therapist who, after spending a decade in a failed relationship, reluctantly re-enters the New York dating scene at 40. She’s set to meet two men—one in his twenties and one in his fifties—and will discover that there is no one-size-fits-all answer to “good sex.”
A Rom-Com for the Ages
Good Sex promises to bring classic romantic comedy vibes, with Dunham directing and producing the film alongside Portman. The Fountain of Youth star is not only starring in the film but is also one of its producers. Also in the cast is Tucker Pillsbury, better known as the singer Role Model, who is making his acting debut.
How Meg Ryan Got Involved
Dunham revealed that she pitched the idea for Good Sex to Meg Ryan while they were both at a Taylor Swift Eras Tour concert. “I decided, it’s now or never, and I’m going to shoot my shot.
She couldn’t be a lovelier person,” Dunham told Variety in a July 8 interview. She also gave a shout-out to Swift for bringing people together, saying, “She makes the world go round.”
A Streaming Rom-Com
Dunham, who has been busy with her Netflix series Too Much, shared that Good Sex will be streaming rather than receiving a theatrical release. “I really just want people to sit on a couch with their moms and their besties and lean in,” Dunham said, emphasizing that the film is made for the audience that resonates with her own tastes.
Upcoming Projects for Portman and Jones
Natalie Portman has several exciting projects lined up, including the animated movie The Twits and Cathy Yan’s The Gallerist. Meanwhile, Rashida Jones, who was recently nominated for a 2025 Primetime Emmy for her role in Black Mirror, will also star in Andrew Stanton’s upcoming film, In the Blink of an Eye.
