Olivia Rodrigo is known for her hit songs and powerful lyrics, but she’s also making a difference behind the scenes on her Guts World Tour.
According to Olivia’s touring guitarist, Daisy Spencer, Olivia goes above and beyond for her team by offering free therapy to her band and crew, both on and off tour.
Spencer, 31, shared this detail during an interview on The StageLeft Podcast on June 30. She said that Olivia and their tour manager, Marty Hom, arranged for accessible and free therapy for everyone working on the tour.
The Impact of Free Therapy on Tour
Spencer explained how incredible it was to have therapy available while on tour. “I have never had anything like that,” she admitted. She went on to say that this opportunity reignited the importance of therapy for her, especially since she had fallen out of the habit of going. “I utilized the crap out of that,” Spencer added.
She also praised Olivia’s generosity, saying, “Honestly, that was one of the coolest things that has ever happened on tour. Like, seriously, one of the best things you can give to people is accessible free therapy, because it can get kind of expensive.”
How Therapy Has Helped Daisy Spencer
Spencer shared that having access to therapy has deeply impacted her, both personally and professionally. She explained that it helped her reconnect with her childhood and process things she hadn’t addressed before. “It’s been a gift for real.
I feel like it is such a gift to be able to look within yourself and have someone else help you bring some stuff out of you that you might otherwise on your own not be able to get there,” Spencer said.
She even referred to therapy as a way to “do baby Daisy a good justice,” meaning that it allowed her to finally understand and process her younger self’s struggles.
Olivia Rodrigo: The Dream Boss
At the end of the podcast, Spencer called Olivia the “dreamiest boss of all time,” praising her for offering such an incredible resource to her team. Olivia’s commitment to mental health is also something she’s been open about in her own life. Her father, Chris Rodrigo, is a family therapist, so it’s clear that mental health is important to her.
Olivia’s Views on Therapy and Music
Olivia has spoken before about how therapy plays a role in her life and in her music. In a 2021 interview with CBS Sunday Morning, she explained that while her music can sound emotional and sad, it’s not an exact reflection of her personal life.
“A lot of people think, listening to my music, that I’m a really sad, depressed person and that couldn’t be farther from the truth,” Olivia said. She added that writing about her feelings, even in sad songs, helps her create music that people can connect with.
Olivia’s Guts World Tour
Olivia’s Guts World Tour has been taking her all around the world, including stops in Asia, Australia, Europe, and North and South America. The tour started in February 2024 and continues throughout the year, with her recent performance at Glastonbury alongside Robert Smith of The Cure being a big highlight.
