Rachel Brosnahan Shares Magic Moment on Superman Set: "You're Part of Something Special"

Rachel Brosnahan, best known for her Emmy-winning role in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, is stepping into the iconic role of Lois Lane in the upcoming Superman film.

In a recent interview at the movie’s premiere in London, the 34-year-old actress shared an emotional moment from the set that reminded her of her love for movies and the magic of being part of such a big project.

A Special Moment on Set

During the filming of the new Superman movie, Brosnahan and her costar Edi Gathegi, who plays Mr. Terrific, were shooting a scene with special VFX effects. In a reflective moment, Brosnahan recalls how the mirror on set shifted, showing their reflections.

Gathegi grabbed her arm, and she thought something had gone wrong, but instead, he turned to her with misty eyes and said, “I just saw us in the movie.”

This simple moment, she explained, brought her back to the excitement of her childhood love for movies. “As long as the days can get and as challenging as things can sometimes be on a set, you’re reminded that you’re a part of something that makes you feel the magic that you felt as a kid who loved movies,” she shared.

Building Chemistry with David Corenswet

Brosnahan also reflected on her chemistry with David Corenswet, who plays Clark Kent/Superman in the film. Before filming began, the two stars spent time together, bonding over meals and getting to know each other. “David was having about five meals for every one meal that I was having at that point,” Brosnahan joked.

She continued to share that she and Corenswet quickly realized how similar they were in their approach to acting. “We’re quite similar in how we work, how we approach this kind of collaboration,” she said, adding that it helped ease the pressure. “That took a big weight off our shoulders.

And then we just got to have a lot of conversations with James [Gunn] and with each other and have a good time,” she explained, referring to the film’s director, James Gunn.

Superman Reboot

This latest Superman film marks a reboot of the DC Universe, introduced by James Gunn and producer Peter Safran. The movie takes audiences back to Clark Kent’s early days as a reporter at The Daily Planet. At the preview event for the first teaser, Gunn shared his initial concerns about casting Superman, but after seeing Corenswet in action, he was quickly convinced.

“I was the most worried about casting Superman at the beginning of this process,” Gunn said. “After the first day, I was like, ‘Oh, I think that guy’s pretty good.’”

Alongside Corenswet and Brosnahan, the film stars Nicholas Hoult as the villainous Lex Luthor, with other actors including Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Milly Alcock as Supergirl, and Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl.

Nathan Fillion will also appear as Green Lantern, with an impressive supporting cast including Sara Sampaio, Terence Rosemore, Anthony Carrigan, María Gabriela de Faría, and Wendell Pierce.

Fans can catch Superman in theaters on Friday, July 11.
