Michigan Father Arrested for Beating 9-Year-Old Son and Burning 1-Year-Old with Cigarettes

A Michigan man, Cedric Diequell-Stevens Moore, 38, has been arrested after allegedly brutally beating his 9-year-old son and placing lit cigarettes on his 1-year-old son’s back and legs.

Moore now faces two counts of child abuse in connection with the disturbing assault that left both children with serious injuries.

The Disturbing Details of the Abuse

The investigation into Moore began on Thursday after his 9-year-old son managed to escape the home in Pontiac, Michigan. The boy ran to a neighbor’s house, where the homeowner called authorities.

Upon arrival, deputies observed severe injuries to the child, including abrasions around his right eye and neck, as well as welts on his torso. The child reported that his father had beaten him with a belt across his face, back, legs, and buttocks, then struck him with a broom handle and choked him until he lost consciousness.

The boy also described his father’s threats during the assault, with Moore allegedly saying, “It’s gonna happen all night,” before leaving for a trip to the store.

The child further explained that his father became angry when his younger brother, the 1-year-old, cried due to hunger. Moore allegedly “threw” the infant into his crib and subjected him to further abuse.

The Younger Child’s Injuries

Upon investigating the 1-year-old, authorities discovered healed cigarette burns on his back and legs, which Moore is accused of inflicting while the infant was in his care.

These injuries prompted Child Protective Services (CPS) to take the 1-year-old into their custody. His mother is currently incarcerated, further complicating the infant’s situation.

Arrest and Legal Proceedings

Moore was arrested later that evening at a relative’s home. He reportedly told the relative that he had been “whooping” his son for stealing. The 9-year-old was taken to the hospital for treatment of his injuries and was listed in stable condition.

The abuse has sparked outrage, with Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard stating, “One of the worst things we see is horrific abuse to children. It cannot be tolerated, and those responsible must be held fully accountable and their children protected.”

Moore remains in custody at the Oakland County Jail, facing charges related to child abuse. His next court appearance is scheduled for July 10.
