FORT LAUDERDALE, FL – A 46-year-old gas station clerk in Florida has been arrested following an incident in which he allegedly shot a customer after a heated argument about the price of beer.
The shooting occurred at a Valero gas station in Fort Lauderdale, and the suspect, Abdulla Monther, now faces one count of aggravated battery.
According to Broward County Sheriff’s Office records and the criminal complaint affidavit, the altercation began on June 19, when Monther and the customer argued over the cost of a beer. The disagreement escalated when the customer threw an object, possibly a piece of paper, at the clerk.
The Shooting Incident
At approximately 11:40 p.m., deputies responded to calls about a shooting at the gas station. Upon arrival, law enforcement was greeted by Monther, who allegedly admitted to having a verbal altercation with the customer, which escalated into the shooting.
The affidavit states that during the argument, Monther retrieved a firearm from under the counter and fired at the customer, striking him in the right calf muscle. Witnesses and surveillance footage from the gas station confirmed the sequence of events.
According to the affidavit, Monther racked the slide of the firearm before shooting in the direction where the customer was standing.
Taunting and Further Details
After the shooting, Monther allegedly taunted the victim, using derogatory language. The affidavit notes that Monther said, “P– ass N–” before following the injured customer while still holding the firearm.
During a Miranda interview, Monther reportedly told law enforcement that the argument began over an additional fifty cents needed to buy the beer. The victim, according to Monther, became loud and aggressive, saying, “I am going to kill you.
You are going to die here tonight,” which made Monther feel uncomfortable and fearful. In response, Monther stated he intentionally aimed at the floor, intending to avoid hitting the victim directly, but the shot still struck the victim’s calf.
Investigation and Arrest
Following the interview, deputies conducted a sweep of the gas station and recovered the firearm allegedly used in the shooting, as well as a bullet and a magazine near the site of the altercation. Monther was arrested and taken into custody.
He was initially jailed in Broward County Jail but later posted a $10,000 bond on Monday and was subsequently released. Monther’s next court date is pending, and he now faces legal consequences for the violent incident over a minor dispute.
