Tia Mowry is sharing her honest thoughts and advice on how to overcome the emotional challenges of divorce.
On June 25, Tia, the star of Tia Mowry: My Next Act, invited her fans to ask questions on her Instagram Stories. One fan reached out asking, “Girl, how do I recover from this divorce? Lord help me, Chile!”
Tia knows the pain of divorce firsthand. She announced her split from actor Cory Hardrict in October 2022, after 14 years of marriage. Their divorce was finalized in April 2023, and they share two children: Cree, 13, and Cairo, 7.
Tia’s Advice for Healing
Tia’s response to the fan’s question was both honest and uplifting. She shared her own experience and advice, emphasizing the importance of self-care during tough times.
“Dive into doing the work,” she advised. “Really, truly focus on self-care.”
She suggested focusing on things that bring joy and fulfillment, like:
- Spending time with friends and loved ones: Build a support system.
- Exploring new hobbies: Whether it’s reading, meditating, or trying something new, make time for things that help you heal.
- Traveling: If possible, Tia mentioned how travel helped her create new experiences and get away from the weight of the divorce.
“It’s all about creating new experiences,” she said. “The more experiences you have, the further away you get from that heavy, gut-wrenching feeling of divorce.”
Allowing Yourself to Feel
Tia also shared a piece of advice she’s spoken about before—allow yourself to feel your emotions. “Allow yourself to cry,” she said. “Allow yourself to feel it all. Just don’t let it consume you.”
She emphasized that it’s important to go through the emotional process, but also to not let it take over your life.
Authenticity with Her Children
Tia has also talked about how she navigates motherhood and vulnerability. She mentioned that it’s important to let her children, Cree and Cairo, see her emotions and understand that it’s okay to feel sad sometimes.
“I’ve made the choice to move from an authentic place,” she shared. “And allow [Cairo] to see that there are days when Mommy is sad. And that’s okay.”
Tia encourages her kids to express their feelings too. “It’s not about covering up things,” she explained. “When you move in authenticity, there’s healing, there’s growth — and I’ve allowed my children to do that as well.”
