A 40-year-old woman in Kentucky is facing attempted murder charges after allegedly beating her 6-year-old daughter with a hammer in a brutal attack that left the child in critical condition.
The incident occurred on Thursday, and the mother, Zeinab Abdi, has been arrested and charged with one count of attempted murder with domestic violence.
The Horrifying Attack
According to the Louisville Metro Police Department, officers responded to a “trouble run” at a residence on Wilson Avenue at approximately 12:49 p.m.
Upon arrival, they discovered the young victim suffering from severe head injuries, including multiple skull fractures and brain bleeds. The child had been struck repeatedly in the head with a hammer, allegedly by her mother.
The child, whose name has not been released, was immediately rushed to Norton Children’s Hospital in critical condition. As of Friday morning, she remained in critical condition, according to the police. The severity of her injuries prompted the department’s homicide unit to take over the investigation.
The Mother’s Confession
Zeinab Abdi, who was taken into custody at the scene, reportedly admitted to the attack. In a post-Miranda statement, she told authorities that she frequently struggles with intense anger and has difficulty controlling herself.
On the day of the incident, she explained that she became excessively angry and struck her daughter in the head with the hammer, though she could not recall exactly how many times.
The Son’s Account of the Attack
The victim’s sibling, a boy whose identity and age have not been released, also provided an account of the horrifying event. According to the police report, the boy intervened during the attack and attempted to restrain his mother.
He told officers that his mother, while being restrained, said, “Let me finish her,” as she attempted to return to the victim and continue the assault.

The shocking nature of the attack has left neighbors in disbelief. Donald Edison, a local resident, expressed his horror over the event, saying, “I think it’s just terrible. I don’t know what type of pressure the child’s mother is under for her to do something like that.”
Another neighbor, Brittany Lindell, described the news as “disgusting” and said it gave her “cold chills.” She added, “I don’t understand how someone could get to that point of anger, especially with an innocent child.”
