Tyler Cameron is weighing in on his friend Matt James’ controversial breakup announcement with Rachael Kirkconnell.
During an appearance on The Viall Files podcast on June 18, Cameron gave insight into how James is handling the aftermath of his viral Instagram post revealing the split.
Cameron Reflects on Matt James’ Breakup Post
James, who was the lead on The Bachelor in 2021, caused a stir when he announced his breakup with Kirkconnell on Instagram in January. In the post, James shared a heartfelt message asking for strength and peace as he and Kirkconnell parted ways.
The post quickly went viral, but it didn’t sit well with Kirkconnell, who later said that she was blindsided by the announcement.
When The Viall Files host Nick Viall asked Cameron how his friend was doing, Cameron responded, “He’s doing good, he’s doing good,” but when pressed about the breakup post, Cameron seemed to suggest that James might regret how it was handled.
“I think he knows and probably regrets… Decisions were made,” Cameron’s girlfriend, Tate Madden, added, as they discussed the fallout from the public announcement.
Cameron then elaborated on the situation, sharing his perspective on the breakup post. “I think the breakup post, he regrets it. It was weird and it transcended my beliefs,” Cameron said, referencing the attention and drama that followed.
Madden chimed in humorously, calling the post “otherworldly,” while Cameron agreed, acknowledging that it wasn’t the best way to handle such a sensitive situation.
Moving On from the Drama
Despite the awkwardness surrounding the breakup post, Cameron still expressed support for his friend. “I still love Matt, but once things like that blow up in your face sometimes it’s best to just kind of let it go past,” he said, indicating that James is trying to move forward and leave the controversy behind.
Rachael Kirkconnell’s Reaction
Kirkconnell, who was reportedly blindsided by James’ Instagram announcement, later spoke out about the situation on Call Her Daddy. She explained that she saw the post just before embarking on a 12-hour flight and had no idea James intended to share their breakup with the world.
She admitted she was still in shock at the time, and said, “I think that’s why I didn’t say anything. Still haven’t made a statement or anything because I’m processing this just like everyone else is.”
A Lesson in Handling Breakups
While James has yet to publicly address the regret over the Instagram post, it’s clear that the fallout has left both he and Kirkconnell dealing with the emotional aftermath in different ways.
Cameron’s insights into the situation highlight the challenges of dealing with a public breakup, especially when it involves the added pressure of social media.
