An Alabama woman, Annie Huffstutler, is facing murder charges after allegedly shooting her husband, Shawn Christian Watson, 38, while he was asleep in their home in Ariton.
The tragic incident occurred early on a Saturday morning and left the small town of less than 1,000 people in shock.
The Fatal Shooting
On the morning of the incident, around 2:30 a.m., the Dale County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting at the couple’s home.
According to authorities, Huffstutler entered the bedroom where her husband was sleeping and shot him. Despite efforts to save him, Watson was pronounced dead at the scene by the coroner.
Children in the Home During the Shooting
At the time of the shooting, five children were in the home. While none of them witnessed the crime, one of the children heard the shot and called 911 for help.
Local authorities have since reached out to the Wiregrass Angel House to assist the family as they cope with the aftermath of the tragedy.
A Loving Tribute Turned Tragic
Before the shooting, Watson had posted a heartfelt tribute to his wife on social media in January, celebrating their anniversary. He expressed love and dedication, sharing how they had faced challenges together and were looking forward to a lifetime of memories.

As of now, police have not released a potential motive for the crime, and a probable cause arrest affidavit with further details has not yet been made available. The investigation continues, but the community remains shaken by the shocking and violent event.
Annie Huffstutler remains in the Dale County Jail without bond as she faces charges in connection with her husband’s death.
