The entertainment world is mourning the loss of David Hekili Kenui Bell, who appeared in the live-action remake of Disney’s Lilo & Stitch.
The talented actor passed away at the age of 46, and his family confirmed the heartbreaking news on June 15, with his sister, Jalene Kanani Bell, sharing a tribute on social media.
A Life Cut Short: Cause of Death Under Investigation
David Bell passed away on June 12 at 2:26 p.m., with Hawai’i police confirming the news. A spokesperson mentioned that a coroner’s inquest investigation has been launched, and an autopsy is scheduled to determine the exact cause of death, though no foul play is suspected.
His agent, Lashauna Downie, also expressed her shock, saying, “He was one of my best talents & embodied the true meaning of aloha…a gentle giant.” The news has left many stunned, including those who had the privilege of working with him.
Remembering David: A Family’s Heartfelt Tribute
In a deeply emotional statement, Jalene Kanani Bell described her brother as “the joy of a human, and Prince of a Man.” She recalled their bond, which began when she met David for the first time on her high school graduation day.
“It was the most amazing surprise which I had been asking for years,” she shared. “While I didn’t grow up with a father, David gave me all the unconditional love I could possibly ask for.”
Jalene also remembered how David celebrated the release of Lilo & Stitch, where he had an exciting role. “He planned ahead and purchased the best seats in the house for us all to go together to opening night,” she wrote, recalling the fun they had at the premiere in Kapolei just two weeks before his passing.
“Seeing the fans dressed in Lilo & Stitch gear had them so energized,” she added. The night was filled with fun and love, with David suggesting they go for shave ice after the movie, though the store was already closed. The family, still grieving, honored his memory by enjoying shave ice in his honor.
A Career Full of Passion
In addition to his work in Lilo & Stitch, David Bell had an extensive career in voiceovers and acting, especially in shows set in Hawai’i. He appeared in episodes of Hawaii Five-0 and Magnum P.I., and his voice could be heard over the PA system at Kona Airport, where he worked to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for travelers.
David’s sister also fondly shared that he loved using social media to connect with fans. “He was and will remain a bright and shining star,” she wrote in her tribute. She promised to keep his memory alive by sharing some of his posts with the world.
A Lasting Legacy
David Bell’s passing has left a deep hole in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His family, friends, and fans will forever remember him for his warmth, humor, and kind spirit.
“Hug your loved ones today,” Jalene advised in her final message. “Blessed by this and all the big and small moments, I will keep our memories alive.”
