A 21-year-old man from Oak Hill, West Virginia, has been arrested for allegedly severely beating his pregnant girlfriend and leaving her for dead in a wooded area. Logan Mark Willis faces charges of attempted murder, strangulation, and malicious assault after the disturbing incident, which took place on Friday.
The Alleged Attack
According to police reports, Logan Willis beat his girlfriend in his car before dragging her into a nearby wooded area and abandoning her there, thinking she was dead. However, Willis called 911 himself from a gas station, admitting to the crime and telling the dispatcher that he believed he had killed her.
Despite his belief, the victim was not dead. Police discovered that she was still alive, though in critical condition. The woman, whose identity has not been disclosed, was found with numerous severe injuries that indicated a violent assault. Investigators said the victim had signs of strangulation and other life-threatening wounds.
The 911 Call and Investigation
In a shocking detail, the 911 call made by Willis revealed that he had physically abused the victim until she stopped breathing. While the dispatcher was aware that the woman was presumed dead, deputies, following a blood trail, managed to locate her still alive in the woods. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office worked quickly to get to the scene and transport the woman to medical care.
Sheriff Ross Mellinger stated that the deputies found the woman by tracking a trail of blood left behind in the woods. He noted the severity of the situation, explaining that the safety of both the victim and her unborn child was of critical importance.
The Unborn Child and Family Concern
A particularly alarming aspect of the case is that Willis had their other child with him when he made the 911 call. The sheriff emphasized that the unborn child’s survival was as much of a priority as the victim’s life.
As of the last update, the victim was still in critical condition, and authorities are focused on ensuring both she and her unborn baby receive the care they need. Willis, who is being held on a $500,000 bond at the South Central Regional Jail, faces serious charges, and the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
This disturbing case has shocked the local community, and authorities are working to ensure that both the victim and her unborn child receive the necessary care. The actions of Logan Mark Willis have raised concerns about domestic violence, and the case will likely draw more attention as it moves through the justice system.
