Rite Aid has officially begun closing dozens of its stores across the United States as part of its Chapter 11 bankruptcy process. The company has announced the first wave of 47 store closures in nine states, including Pennsylvania, California, and New York.
These shutdowns mark a significant move as the struggling drugstore chain restructures amid mounting financial challenges.
Rite Aid Enters Chapter 11 Bankruptcy
Rite Aid has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Jersey. The company has notified vendors it will no longer purchase goods and services while it undergoes a “strategic and value-maximizing sale” of its assets.
Although the company stated that most of its stores will remain open “for the next few months,” the long-term future of the chain appears uncertain.
