Alyssa Thomas Makes WNBA History with Record 3rd Straight Triple-Double as Phoenix Mercury Crush Fever

Phoenix, Arizona – Alyssa Thomas has done something no WNBA player has ever done before — she recorded her third consecutive triple-double, leading the Phoenix Mercury to a massive 95-60 win over the Indiana Fever on Thursday night.

This was the Mercury’s third win in a row, and they’re showing strong form as the regular season moves ahead.

Alyssa Thomas Creates History

Thomas finished the game with 18 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists, making her the first player in WNBA history to get triple-doubles in three games in a row.

She reached the milestone with under four minutes left in the game, passing to DeWanna Bonner, who sank a 3-pointer from the corner.

This triple-double was her 19th career triple-double — a WNBA record. No other player in the league has more than four.

Speaking after the game, Thomas said,
“Just a huge honour… A lot of credit to my teammates. But to be the first ever, not many people can say that about anything.”

In the last three games alone, Thomas has totaled 41 points, 33 rebounds, and 32 assists — an all-round performance that has made her the talk of the league.

Team Effort Powers Big Victory

Thomas wasn’t alone in helping the Mercury win big.
DeWanna Bonner had her best game of the season with 23 points, while Satou Sabally added 15 points and 8 rebounds.
Kahleah Copper chipped in with 11 points.

With this win, the Mercury (19-11) matched their win total from last season (19-21), with several games still to play. The 35-point win was their third-largest margin of victory in franchise history.

Indiana’s Struggles Continue

The Indiana Fever (17-14) had a tough night.
Sophie Cunningham scored 18 points, hitting 5 of 8 three-pointers, while Kelsey Mitchell added 12 points.
Caitlin Clark, Indiana’s star rookie, missed her ninth straight game due to a groin injury.

The Fever did show some fight early in the second half, cutting Phoenix’s lead to 53-44 after two back-to-back threes by Cunningham. But the Mercury responded with a 14-0 run, led by Sami Whitcomb, to extend the lead to 23 points late in the third quarter.

Indiana then went over four minutes without scoring and finished the third quarter with just 11 points — a key reason they couldn’t come back into the game.

Mercury’s Momentum Building

Speaking about the team’s current strong form, Thomas said:
“Just leaning into each other. We’ve had a lot of adversity this season, injuries and all. But now I think we’re hitting our second wind.”

With players getting healthy and their chemistry improving, Phoenix is becoming one of the teams to watch as the WNBA playoffs approach.

The season series between Phoenix and Indiana is now tied at 1-1. The final meeting of the regular season will be on September 2 in Phoenix, which could be a key matchup for playoff positioning.
