Arch Manning Likely to Skip 2026 NFL Draft, Says Grandfather Archie Manning

Arch Manning, one of college football’s brightest young stars, is expected to stay at Texas and skip the 2026 NFL Draft, according to his grandfather Archie Manning. In a recent interview with Texas Monthly, Archie shared that Arch isn’t planning to leave college early.

Arch Manning to Stay at Texas

When asked about Arch’s future in the NFL, Archie replied clearly:
“Arch isn’t going to do that. He’ll be at Texas.”

Although Arch is just 21, he is already being talked about as a possible No. 1 overall draft pick in the 2026 NFL Draft and a top candidate for the Heisman Trophy. However, his family history shows that staying in college longer is common in the Manning household.

A Family of Football Legends

Arch comes from a legendary football family. His grandfather Archie Manning was a star at Ole Miss, finishing in the top 4 of Heisman voting twice and becoming the No. 2 pick in the 1971 NFL Draft.

His uncles, Peyton and Eli Manning, were both No. 1 overall picks—Peyton in 1998 and Eli in 2004. They both played four full years of college football. Arch’s father, Cooper Manning, was also a promising player before a spinal issue ended his career early.

Unlike the older generation, Arch is part of the NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness) era. He has earned an estimated $6.8 million through endorsements from brands like Raising Cane’s, Vuori, and Panini America, making him the highest-earning college athlete.

Arch Manning’s Close Bond with Grandfather

Although Archie hasn’t formally discussed Arch skipping the draft with him, their bond is strong.
“My grandfather, we’re like best friends,” Arch said at SEC Media Day.
“He texts me every day. He came to a bunch of my practices in high school. He’s a great role model.”

For now, Arch is focused only on the present season.
“I’m just focused on this year,” he told reporters, brushing off questions about the NFL.

Arch’s Journey So Far at Texas

Arch spent his first two seasons behind starting quarterback Quinn Ewers, who was drafted by the Miami Dolphins in 2025. Arch redshirted in 2023 but impressed in limited playtime.

He went 2-0 as a starter, throwing for 258 yards and 2 touchdowns against Louisiana-Monroe, and 325 yards with three total touchdowns against Mississippi State. In total, he has played 12 games, completing 66.3% of his passes for 969 yards, 9 touchdowns, and only 2 interceptions. He also rushed for 115 yards and 4 touchdowns.

NFL Scouts Expect Him to Stay

Several NFL scouts and executives believe Arch will stay at Texas. Even Cleveland Browns co-owner Jimmy Haslam, whose team may have a top draft pick, doesn’t expect Arch to turn pro in 2026.
“If you know the Manning family, I’d bet he stays in college two years,” he said.

Big Game Ahead

Arch and the top-ranked Texas Longhorns are preparing for a huge season opener against No. 2 Ohio State on August 30 in Columbus, Ohio. With all eyes on him, Arch will have the chance to prove why he’s considered one of college football’s most promising young quarterbacks.
