In a shocking case from Florida, USA, a 14-year-old boy is accused of shooting and killing his parents, then walking more than a mile to a nearby church to confess and wait for the police.
The teenager, identified as Trevor Lee, made a 911 call where he told the operator, “Pray for me,” after admitting to the killings.
What Happened That Night?
According to the police, the incident took place early on Monday morning in Middleburg, a town in Clay County, Florida. Trevor Lee allegedly shot both his mother, Brandi Smith (45), and his father, David Lee (44), inside their home. After the tragic incident, he reportedly walked 1.4 miles to Cross Pointe Church on Fleming Island.
At around 3:48 a.m., Lee called 911 from the church. He told the dispatcher that he had killed his parents and was waiting there for the police to arrive. The calm voice of the dispatcher can be heard in the released audio trying to comfort the boy while officers rushed to the scene.
Police Investigation and Family Reaction
Clay County Sheriff Michelle Cook confirmed that the teenager was taken into custody without any resistance. She also mentioned that the shooting followed a domestic argument. “It appears there was some sort of family dispute that ended in this terrible act,” she said during a press conference.
Later, Lee’s aunt — the sister of his father — called the police after hearing about the incident. She said the family had spent a normal Sunday together and even went to the movies. “They had a good day,” she reportedly told investigators.
Social Media Clues and Mental Health Concerns
After the incident, police also found a 2019 Facebook post from Brandi Smith where she described her struggles with her son. She had written, “This lil boy gives me pure hell. Everything I did to my parents I’m getting it back times 10. Y’all keep us lifted up in prayer.”
Now, investigators are also looking into the boy’s mental health history to understand if there were any past issues that might explain his actions. So far, there is no official report on whether he had been receiving any mental health support.
The 911 Call: Emotional and Chilling
In the audio recording of the 911 call, the dispatcher is heard guiding the teen calmly, saying, “Take a deep breath because they’re going to come up and talk to you.” To which the boy replied, “Yes, ma’am.” The dispatcher also told him she would pray for him after he asked her to do so.
This case has shocked the local community and raised serious questions about youth mental health and family struggles. Authorities are still investigating what led to this tragic incident, and the young boy now faces two counts of second-degree murder.
As the investigation continues, the main focus remains on understanding how such a young child came to commit such a serious crime — and how such tragedies can be prevented in the future.
