The Boston Red Sox have locked up outfielder Roman Anthony with a massive eight-year contract extension, worth $130 million, the team announced Wednesday.
The deal, which includes a $5 million signing bonus, could climb to $230 million with escalators, reflecting Anthony’s immense potential.
A Bright Future for the Red Sox
Anthony, 21, has quickly become a standout in his rookie season, hitting .283 with a .400 on-base percentage, two home runs, and 19 RBIs in 46 games through Wednesday.

While Anthony gave up the opportunity to reach free agency at just 26, the deal could still reward him with further financial benefits. Some of the contract escalators are tied to his finish in the American League Rookie of the Year voting. If he finishes in the top two, the escalators would activate, further increasing his value.
If the Red Sox exercise their club option for 2034, Anthony would reach free agency at 30 years old, ensuring he has a chance to secure another major payday as he enters the prime of his career.
