Georgia Man Gets Life in Prison for Killing Girlfriend and Her Son, Leaving 8-Year-Old Alone with the Bodies

In a heartbreaking and shocking case from Georgia, a man has been sentenced to life in prison for murdering his girlfriend and her teenage son — and leaving an 8-year-old boy to live alone in the house with their dead bodies for two days.

What Happened?

William Jerome Adams, 29, was found guilty of two counts of murder and two counts of aggravated assault for the March 2021 shooting deaths of Mary Lindsay, 39, and her 15-year-old son, Atif Muhammad Jr.. The tragedy happened in their home in Flowery Branch, Georgia.

The case came to light on March 26, 2021, when Mary’s eldest daughter went to check on her mother, who hadn’t been heard from in several days. She climbed through a window and was shocked to find her 8-year-old brother asleep in their mother’s bedroom — completely unaware of the horrific scene in the locked room next door.

When she opened the locked bedroom, she discovered the lifeless bodies of her mother and teenage brother. Police confirmed they had both been shot two days earlier by Adams, who was Mary’s boyfriend.

The Chilling Details of the Crime

Investigators found three 9 mm bullet casings inside the bedroom and later matched them to bullets found nearby. It was clear from the evidence that Adams had planned the attack.

After the shooting, he fled the house and even tried to escape to Mexico using a fake name and without a passport. Authorities caught him near Laredo, Texas, before he could cross the border.

To make matters worse, Adams also stole $2,000 from Mary Lindsay’s bank account after the murder.

During the trial, Atif’s twin sister shared disturbing testimony. She had seen a 9 mm handgun in the house about ten days before the murders and had even taken a photo of it on her phone. Her mother had told her it belonged to Adams. Jurors also heard how Adams was controlling and abusive, and saw a photo of an injury he had caused on Mary’s arm.

The Verdict and Sentence

After hearing all the evidence, the jury found Adams guilty on all charges. A judge then sentenced him to life in prison without the possibility of parole — meaning he will never be released.

The Gwinnett County District Attorney, Patsy Austin-Gatson, called the crime “violent and cruel.” She said, “The verdict and sentence are fitting for a defendant who violently took the life of a mother and son and stole from them. We mourn with the victims’ family and hope that the outcome of the trial gives them some closure and justice.”

This heartbreaking case shows the devastating effects of domestic violence and gun abuse. An 8-year-old boy was left in a house with his dead family members for two entire days, unaware of the tragedy that had occurred. Thanks to strong testimony, solid police work, and a swift trial, justice has now been served.

But the pain and loss suffered by the surviving family will never fully heal. This case reminds us why it’s important to speak out against abuse and take action before it’s too late.
