Tiptonville, Tennessee – A 7-month-old baby found abandoned in a “random” yard has led authorities to uncover the bodies of his mother, father, grandmother, and 15-year-old uncle in a tragic and deeply saddening case in Lake County, Tennessee.
Federal and state authorities, including the FBI and Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI), have joined the investigation after the bodies were discovered late on Tuesday evening, following the initial call about the abandoned baby.
The Investigation Unfolds
Local District Attorney Danny Goodman Jr. revealed that the infant, the son of Matthew Wilson and Adrianna Williams, is linked to the deceased family members.
The bodies of Matthew Wilson, Adrianna Williams, Cortney Rose (the infant’s grandmother), and Braden Williams (the child’s 15-year-old uncle) were discovered by authorities just hours after the baby was found.
The child was dropped off around 3:10 p.m. on Tuesday, in a random individual’s front yard, in a dark-colored minivan or white mid-size SUV, according to police reports.
TBI agents, with federal assistance, started piecing together the puzzle after the baby was identified, leading investigators to the family’s bodies, which were found five hours later near Carrington Road in Tiptonville, Lake County.
Authorities Step Up Investigation
TBI officials have assured the public that while this case is tragic, there is no indication that the deaths are part of a larger random pattern that could pose a threat to others.
TBI Communications Director Josh DeVine told Law&Crime that “the investigation remains active and ongoing,” with agents continuing to interview individuals who may have information related to the case. The investigation was further supported by both the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and Dyer County Sheriff’s Office.
District Attorney Goodman confirmed that TBI investigators are in the process of speaking with several individuals who might have knowledge about the deaths, but declined to share further details, including whether criminal charges are anticipated or suspects have been identified.
In a statement on Facebook, Lake County Sheriff Bryan Avery expressed the community’s heartbreak, offering support to the impacted families and confirming that the TBI is handling the case with the utmost professionalism.
A Devastating Loss for the Community
The loss has deeply affected not only the immediate family but also the wider Tiptonville and Lake County communities. Dyer County Sheriff Jeff Box also expressed condolences, calling Tuesday a “deeply saddening day” for the region. He assured residents that authorities are working tirelessly to uncover the truth and ensure justice.
The Family’s Story
The circumstances surrounding the deaths remain unclear, with TBI and FBI agents not disclosing details about any suspects or whether foul play is suspected. The family members’ tragic deaths have sent shockwaves through the community, leaving many in disbelief.
The victim’s foster sister, Tracey Coleman, spoke to local outlets about the pain her family feels, remembering the victims and expressing their devastation at the sudden loss.
As the investigation continues, authorities urge anyone with information to come forward to help piece together what happened. At this time, the exact cause of the deaths has not been confirmed, and it remains unclear whether any criminal charges will be filed.
