Santa Clara, California – The San Francisco 49ers were left in a state of concern at the end of Sunday’s practice when defensive lineman Tarron Jackson collapsed on the field.
According to NBC Sports Bay Area, Jackson, 27, was involved in a block during 11-on-11 drills when he suddenly went to the ground and became motionless.
Trainers quickly rushed to his aid, and Jackson was placed on a stretcher and transported to a local hospital for further evaluation.
Medical Update
The 49ers finished the rest of the practice, but there was a sense of relief when head coach Kyle Shanahan provided a positive update to reporters. He confirmed that Jackson was conscious and able to communicate with the medical staff.
“He’s conscious inside,” Shanahan said. “He’s communicating with us, can feel all his extremities. They’re taking him down to Stanford now for further testing. Hopefully, we’ve cleared the real scary stuff and we’ll get some good news on his neck.”
Teammates React
Running back Christian McCaffrey expressed his concerns about the seriousness of the situation, noting how the incident was a reminder of the physical risks players face.
“It’s never good,” McCaffrey said. “You just gotta pray for the best in situations like that. It’s definitely a reminder not to take any day for granted. It’s a non-padded practice, and dudes are getting carted off. It’s a serious sport, and just pray for the best for him.”
Jackson’s Journey
Tarron Jackson, a sixth-round draft pick by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2021, has played in 24 games during his pro career, recording 18 tackles and one sack.
Last season, Jackson played only two games for the Carolina Panthers, spending the majority of the year on practice squads in both Carolina and Philadelphia.
The 49ers signed Jackson to a reserve/future contract in January. He’s currently battling for a spot on the roster as the team prepares for the 2023 season.
The 49ers and fans alike will be hoping for positive news as Tarron Jackson undergoes further testing. His teammates, coaches, and the entire organization are awaiting updates, hoping for a speedy recovery and the best possible outcome.
