ATLANTA — Falcons wide receiver Darnell Mooney will miss a few weeks due to a shoulder injury sustained during Thursday’s practice.
The injury occurred when Mooney dove for a deep pass from quarterback Michael Penix during team drills. Mooney walked off the field with a trainer and did not return to practice.
Injury Details
It is presumed that Mooney underwent an MRI on his shoulder following the injury. This injury comes after Mooney missed the Falcons’ Week 18 loss to the Panthers last season due to a shoulder issue. It remains unclear whether this new injury is to the same shoulder or if it’s related to the previous issue.
Impact on the Falcons’ Roster
Mooney’s absence prompted the Falcons to add another wide receiver to their roster on Friday. DJ Chark was signed to provide additional depth to the receiving corps as the team adjusts to Mooney’s recovery timeline.
Mooney’s Performance in Atlanta
Last season was Mooney’s first with the Atlanta Falcons, and he had a solid campaign, recording 64 receptions for 992 yards and five touchdowns. His performance made a significant impact on the team’s offense, and the Falcons will look forward to his return once he is healthy.
