Kyle Pitts Shocks Fans with His Incredible Return to Falcons Training Camp

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga.Atlanta Falcons tight end Kyle Pitts was back on the field Thursday for the team’s first day of training camp. He missed the OTAs and minicamp due to an undisclosed injury.

Pitts Cleared to Practice with Modifications

Falcons coach Raheem Morris confirmed that Pitts had been cleared to practice, but with some modifications. “It’s not that we’ll keep him out, but we’ll take him off of some things and take some things off of their plates to make sure we get things the right way,” Morris said.

No Noticeable Limitations

Despite any potential limitations, Pitts looked strong during the practice session. Quarterback Michael Penix Jr. connected with Pitts for a couple of big gains against the second-team defense. “Got KP the ball today,” Penix said, smiling. “Gonna be a lot of that.”

Pitts Feels Fully Healthy

Pitts, 24, said he does not feel any limitations and feels fully healthy. However, he declined to discuss any specifics about his injury. “I don’t consider myself limited in any way,” Pitts said.

Pitts’ Career and Expectations

Drafted as the No. 4 overall pick by the Falcons in 2021, Pitts had a record-setting rookie season, with 1,026 yards receiving, 68 catches, and a Pro Bowl selection. However, he hasn’t been able to match that performance in the following seasons due to injuries and inconsistency.

As he enters his fifth season, Pitts emphasized that he’s not bothered by outside opinions. “I don’t read that rat poison,” Pitts said. “I don’t get on Twitter and listen to the bot who can’t come out here in 90-degree weather and do what we do.”

Penix and Pitts’ Connection

Pitts caught several key passes late last season after Penix took over as quarterback, including a diving touchdown against the Washington Commanders. Penix will now be Pitts’ fifth quarterback in as many seasons.

A Contract Year for Pitts

This season is also a contract year for Pitts. The Falcons picked up his fifth-year option last year, meaning he will be a free agent next offseason unless he is re-signed or given a franchise tag. However, Pitts is focused on the present and is not concerned about contract talks right now.

“We’ll figure that out at the end,” Pitts said. “Taking it day by day. Today is the first day of camp.”
