E! News, the popular entertainment news show, is set to end after 34 years. According to PEOPLE, the last episode of the show will air on September 25.
The news was shared with the E! News team on July 24, and the show will air a repeat episode tonight, followed by new episodes next week. After the show ends, E! News will continue as a digital brand with content on E! Online, social media platforms, and digital shows such as The Rundown on Snapchat, Hot Goss on Instagram, and RE!CAP on YouTube.
E! News to Transition to Digital Content
While the television version of E! News is coming to an end, the E! brand will still exist online. The network will continue its red carpet coverage through shows like Live from E!. E! will also maintain its original programming such as Botched Presents: Plastic Surgery Rewind, Honestly Cavallari: The Headline Tour, and other acquired content.
Recently, E! also announced new shows like Kimora: Back in the Fab Lane and E!’s Dirty Rotten Scandals.
Changes at NBCUniversal
This decision comes as NBCUniversal reorganized its broadcasting offerings. NBC, Peacock, and Bravo will remain under the original brand, while other cable channels, including E!, USA Network, Syfy, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, and the Golf Channel, will move to a new company called Versant.
Some E! News correspondents will transition to Versant, but the future opportunities for these employees are still being determined.
A Look Back at E! News
E! News first premiered on September 1, 1991, with Dagny Hultgreen as the original host. Over the years, the show has had many changes. In 2006, Ryan Seacrest and Giuliana Rancic became the hosts.
After Seacrest left in April 2012, Jason Kennedy took over as the host. Rancic also reduced her role after having her son Duke in 2012, and Catt Sadler joined the team.
However, in December 2017, Sadler left the network after a pay dispute, claiming she was being paid less than Kennedy, who was reportedly earning double her salary. The network responded, saying they compensated employees fairly and appropriately.
In 2020, E! News moved its broadcast to New York and introduced new co-anchors, Lilliana Vazquez and Scott Tweedie. However, the show was canceled seven months later due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
E! News made a comeback in 2022, with hosts Adrienne Bailon-Houghton and Justin Sylvester. Later, Keltie Knight was promoted to co-anchor after Bailon-Houghton left in October 2023.
The End of an Era
E! News has been a staple in entertainment news for decades, but as it ends its run on television, it looks forward to a new chapter in the digital world. Fans can still catch E! content online, but the show’s final episode marks the end of an era for E! News on TV.
