Heroic Woman Rescues 9-Year-Old Boy After He’s Kidnapped While Selling Water on the Street

Authorities in Florida are praising the bravery of a Good Samaritan who risked her own safety to rescue a 9-year-old boy who was allegedly kidnapped while selling water on the street. The incident occurred around 9 p.m. on June 27 in Jacksonville, Florida.

The Kidnapping Incident

The young boy was selling water to passersby at the intersection of Edgewood Avenue and Moncrief Road when 22-year-old Mikaya Williams allegedly approached him in her car. According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, the boy did not know Williams and had never seen her before.

Williams allegedly told the boy, “Get in the car, your mom said get in the car,” and “come here, get in the car, I got your money.” She then placed the boy’s water cooler in the back of her car and reportedly pushed him inside.

Once in the car, the boy began to panic, crying, shaking, and screaming. He later told investigators that Williams turned up the car radio and sped off while he was inside. The situation could have turned far worse if not for the quick thinking of a local Good Samaritan.

The Heroic Rescue

Shameika Dowell, who knows the boy and his family, witnessed the alleged kidnapping and immediately sprang into action. Dowell was horrified as she saw Williams snatch the child and drag him into the car.

“I’m like, ‘Are you serious?'” Dowell recalled. “It was a ‘think fast Meika, move quick. You gotta get this child, move quick.'”

Without hesitation, Dowell jumped into her own car and began chasing Williams. She caught up to the suspect and cornered her vehicle. Dowell ran up to the passenger door, started kicking it until it opened, and then pulled the boy out of the car, along with his water cooler.

The Aftermath and Arrest

Once the boy was safely retrieved, police were called to the scene. Williams was arrested, and the boy was returned to his family. During questioning, Williams claimed she was on “crazy medicine” at the time of the incident, according to police reports.

Williams now faces a kidnapping charge and is being held without bond at the Jacksonville jail. Her next court appearance is scheduled for July 21.

Community Praise for Shameika Dowell

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office expressed gratitude for Dowell’s quick and courageous actions, thanking her for helping rescue the boy from what could have been a much more dangerous situation.

The agency posted on Facebook: “JSO thanks the heroic witness who stepped in and helped rescue the child from a dangerous situation.”

Dowell’s actions not only saved the young boy but also demonstrated the power of community and the willingness of ordinary people to step up in times of crisis.
