Areas Affected by Heavy Rainfall
According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, the highest rainfall total over the past three days came from a location 4 miles northeast of Durand, which recorded 3.22 inches. Nearby communities like St. Anne (2.86 inches) and Chebanse (2.95 inches) also experienced significant rainfall, resulting in saturated fields and standing water on rural roads. In comparison, O’Hare Airport received only 0.63 inches, with Midway slightly higher at 0.86 inches.
Communities in Iroquois and Kankakee counties, as well as parts of northwest Indiana, also reported widespread rainfall totals of over 2.5 inches. This includes towns like Crescent City, De Motte, and Valparaiso. Road conditions became hazardous in these areas, with road spray, reduced visibility, and ponding on highways like I-57 and U.S. Route 24, making travel difficult and dangerous at times.

Residents in low-lying areas should be cautious and monitor their local drainage systems closely, as heavy rainfall has led to water collecting on rural roads.
